Choices meets the needs of Pennsylvania residents who need abortion services up to 24 weeks. We are here for you, with the best abortion care possible and the highest standards for your safety and well-being.
What are the Current Pennsylvania Abortion laws?
In Pennsylvania, the following abortion laws were in effect as of March 1, 2020:
- If you are under 18, a parent must give consent before you have an abortion.
- Later in pregnancy, with few exceptions, abortions can be performed only in limited circumstances.
- A patient must receive state-directed counseling and then wait 24 hours before the abortion. This means two visits are required.
Why choose Choices?
Choices Women’s Medical Center has none of these laws or any other restrictions on abortion services up to 24 weeks of pregnancy. No matter how old you are, you do not have to notify anyone or obtain permission from anyone for an abortion. It is your decision to make, for whatever reason, and Choices will support you and ensure your privacy. You can make an appointment for the same or next day.
We take Pennsylvania Medicaid, as well as most insurances and credit cards. We can arrange low-cost self-payment plans on a sliding scale, and we work with abortion funds to help cover the cost (see below). Our staff is multi-lingual, and our Out-of-Town Counselors will help arrange your visit, including transportation and your overnight stay if needed. Call us.
Patients come to Choices Women’s Medical Center from all over the country and around the world because of our reputation as a leader in providing the best quality abortion care and reproductive health services. Since 1971 we have provided abortions up to 24 weeks of pregnancy with no waiting periods or other restrictions.
Top-rated physicians and medical facilities send patients to us for abortion care because they know they will be cared for with compassion, confidentiality and the highest level of skill. All of this makes Choices the first choice of many patients who need abortion care and live outside New York City.
Choices is conveniently located in Queens, New York near JFK Airport and an easy commute via subway, train, bus or car from all New York City boroughs and the Tri-State Region.
Choices also offers special assistance for our out-of-town patients. When you call for an appointment, ask to speak to an Out-of-Town Counselor who will help you with all your needs: transportation to and from NYC, overnight housing if needed and financial assistance. And remember, everything is entirely confidential.
New York State allows abortion up to 24 weeks with NO limitations. NO age restrictions. NO requirements that you notify parents or partners, NO waiting periods. In most cases, you can get a next-day appointment at Choices. Your decision about what to do about an unwanted pregnancy is entirely up to you. Your pre-abortion counseling session will answer all your questions and give you all the information you need to make an informed decision that is right for you.
Overnight Housing: Helping You Find Affordable or No-Cost Overnight Housing
If you are coming for a procedure that requires two days (generally between 13 and 24 weeks of pregnancy) or traveling from a long distance, you may need to stay overnight. Choices can recommend nearby hotels. We can also connect you with Haven Coalition, a volunteer network of caring people who will host your stay at one of their homes and, if needed, can arrange for someone to accompany you to your appointment at Choices.
We are here to assist you, no matter where you’re from.
Financial Assistance: Helping Fund the Services You Need
Choices currently accepts Medicaid from New York and will soon be able to accept Medicaid from Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. Choices will never turn patients away simply because they can’t afford care. We also accept most insurances. We partner with funding agencies and organizations that can help pay for abortion services for low-income women, as well as cover transportation to NYC and overnight housing. Call and let us know how we can help. We are here for you.
